Playing a Engineer in Team Fortress 2 can be as difficult as any other class. It requires you to figure out how to benefit your team and place your structures in the proper locations. When playing Engineer, you have the ability to build and destroy a variety of structures that benefit your team in many ways. I will explain some things to remember when playing this very useful class.

Using your Right-Click (or Left-Click for Left Handers) rotates the Sentry
Unlike the original Team Fortress, you cannot rotate the Sentry gun once it has been built. The only way you can reposition the Sentry is during the “Build Location” mode (White wireframe of the structure). When in this mode, a simple right click will rotate it 90 degrees. Building was never so easy!
Building close to others = BAD!!!
When build your structures, it’s not a great idea to build next to other Engineers structures. Why you ask? If an enemy or enemies were to rush, they will AIM for the sentry location and if lucky take down two for the price of one. That’s not all though… If a Spy decides to sneak in under the radar, the structures are so close together that it will give the spy the opportunity to constantly “ZAP” you and your teammates structures easily.
The only time building structures so close together is when you place dispensers close to each other. This can be useful for all classes as it will be a constant supply (x2) of Health and Ammunition.
Teleporters… USE THEM!!!
Every map in Team Fortress 2 can benefit from using these great structures. The smart way to use these is to immediately build a “Teleporter Entrance” when exiting your spawn. Then, build a “Teleporter Exit” when needed to help your team get to key points much faster. A great example of the use of Teleporters is when playing Dustbowl on the Attackers (Offense) side. Using Teleporters will help get Heavies/Soldiers/Demomen/Medics to the point faster to support a constant push for the command point. Basically, use them! They are there for a reason!
Sentry Gun = SHIELD!
If you are rushed by a group of enemies, remember… Hiding behind your Sentry Gun can protect you from enemy fire. Be sure to constantly repair your Sentry as it will be sucking up tons of damage!
Keep your AMMO FULL!!!
This is a key thing to learn and remember when playing an Engineer. Everyone gets terrified when a UBERCHARGED Medic/Heavy combination approach, but they are no match for an Engineer with a constant repair. As the Heavy shoots the Sentry, it ABSORBS the damage, leaving you un-harmed and with you and your full ammo repairing it, you’ll survive longer as well as your Sentry with your constant repair.
Now… if you had lets say, 45 ammo, you would use it up repairing the Sentry leaving you empty and unable to repair the Sentry further.
Remember, keep your AMMUNITION full as a ENGINEER!!!
